NASA has confirmed that a huge asteroid, named 2025 QV9, is set up for a close flyby of Earth today. The space rock measures about 100 feet across and is moving at a very swift pace of 10,319 miles per hour.

According to NASA, asteroid 2025 QV9 would pass safely at a staggering distance of 1.25 million miles from Earth. It sounds very far, but in astronomy, this would be signified as a nearby approach. Lying in the Aten group of asteroids, QV9 often crosses Earth's orbit and thus is watched closely.
Despite its dimensions and pace, the experts say it is no threat. NASA has a very precise classification of so-called potential hazardous asteroids: if they pass within 7.4 million km and are greater than 85 meters in diameter. Hence, QV9 meets neither criterion.
