Microsoft is undergoing another major round of layoffs, cutting nearly 9,000 jobs globally as part of its ongoing efforts to streamline operations and improve efficiency. This marks the second wave of layoffs by the tech giant this year, affecting about 4% of its workforce.
The cuts have hit multiple divisions, including Xbox and creative teams, leading to shock and frustration among employees. Many have taken to social media to express their disappointment and share firsthand experiences.
Amanda Goodall, CEO of workforce intelligence firm EdgePulse, has highlighted several accounts from Microsoft staff. One employee described a meeting where their manager was abruptly informed that they were being let go, even as the rest of the team was told they were safe. “Entire teams were fired in bulk… on group calls,” the employee shared.
Others lamented the loss of talented colleagues. “They’re not just cutting low performers or unprofitable ventures,” said one insider. “They’re letting go of many good people who have driven record results over recent years.”
The emotional toll is evident. One employee called the layoffs “the end of the old Microsoft culture” that had kept them at the company for over a decade and expressed disdain for the “cutthroat” approach resembling other tech giants.
Another worker voiced sadness over colleagues with long tenures being dismissed coldly, criticizing the disconnect between layoffs and executive bonuses.
In response, Microsoft stated the layoffs are necessary for organizational changes to keep the company competitive in a shifting market.
As Microsoft restructures, the departure of valued employees continues to raise questions about the company’s direction and culture.
