McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella has reenergized the hope regarding his team in the Drivers' Championship after the spectacular victory of Lando Norris at the Mexico City Grand Prix. The result was a turning point for McLaren as the team celebrated their first victory after four races and Norris’s sixth win of the 2025 season, awakening the ambition of the team for the title.

Norris was very skillful in the 71-lap competition at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez as he got the lead right from the beginning and finished the race 30 seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. This win took Norris back to the top of the drivers' standings with a one-point lead over his teammate Oscar Piastri, while Verstappen was behind by 36 points with just four races left in the season.

“The confidence in terms of the championship is increased,” said Stella after McLaren had its 13th win of the season. “We’ve proven that our car can not only win but also dominate under certain conditions. That’s the key factor in putting Lando and Oscar in a position to fight for the title.”

Stella emphasized that the success of McLaren is not a matter of mathematical possibilities but of constant competitiveness. He also gave credit to Piastri for his performance, saying that even though the young Australian lost ground to Verstappen in Mexico, he gained a lot of experience that will make him stronger in pushing for the title.

The victory in Mexico came at a vital time for McLaren who had been through a four-race winless streak during which Verstappen reduced what was once a 104-point gap. The amazing performance of Norris – after he bounced back from Zandvoort retirement and closed the 34-point gap to Piastri – showed the comeback of McLaren.

“When we look at Lando’s career, we’ve seen this level of dominance before — like in Zandvoort and Singapore,” Stella added. “His pace was outstanding in every session. The low-grip conditions were a perfect match for his natural driving style.”

Stella thinks that both Norris and Piastri will be filled with renewed belief and momentum as they enter the final part of the season, while the team has also got a clearer understanding of the performance potential of the car.

“We’ve learned how to extract the maximum from our package. The team and drivers come out of this weekend encouraged and optimistic for the final four races,” Stella ended.

With only four Grands Prix remaining, McLaren's comeback creates a spectacular championship duel - a battle in which Norris and Piastri could push all the way to the season's last race.
