India to benefit if Indian voted as Mayor of London: Karuna Gopal

India will be at advantage if an Indian holds the Mayoral position of London as mutual business interactions and exchange of technology know-how will lead to strengthening of the relationship, said Karuna Gopal, BJP National-in-charge, Women Policies and Research.

Karuna Gopal was speaking in support of Tarun Ghulati, an Indian-origin independent candidate, who announced his candidature for the forthcoming London Mayor elections 2024, at an event in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

“Indians in metros spend many hours on the roads, in the traffic. London has the best public transport and traffic management system. With Ghulati as the Mayor, we can access the technology on which London Data Store and their traffic control and management is built on. Though we have such technology in place, there is scope to strengthen it further. Another major tech that India can adopt is London’s patient registry, wherein the patient data is digitised and available on a single platform,” Gopal highlighted.

She further said that with Tarun Ghulati as London Mayor can ensure full advantage is taken of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement. “India is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for investments due to its focus on ease of doing business, improving infrastructure, large and growing consumer market, sizeable skilled and young workforce, and commitment to economic reform. Ghulati will help facilitate mutual business interactions and indeed strengthen the India and UK relationship,” she added.

Ghulati affirmed that the Free Trade Agreement between India and UK will unlock opportunities to ensure greater efficiency and innovation in production, increased economic development, enhance living standards thereby leading to overall economic growth.
