The winter blizzards in the US are high in the Upper Midwest, turning about one normally bustling airport into a practical ghost town.

The data shared from FlightAware, U.S, flight cancellations on Sunday accounted for about 78% of all cancelled flights globally, with at least 2,216 flights grounded out of around 2,842 global cancellations.

However, an extra 6,826 delays have reportedly rippled across the national air network. The additional straining travel schedules across the world. Some airlines have since issued guidelines permitting passengers to change their flights without big fees. It is about to give flexibility for travellers straight away affected by the winter storms.

The epicenter of the disturbances stays in the Midwest. It is the heaviest blow centered on Chicago, followed by Minneapolis. The fallout has formed visible ripple effects at other major US airports, like Atlanta and Denver.

According to FlyChicago, ‘The airport seeing the biggest impact by sheer volume is Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. It is reported that 790 flights were affected directly.’

FlightAware data shared that about 26% of its departing flights have been canceled. More than 29% of incoming flights have also been scrapped.

FlyChicago also added another 839 flights, both incoming and outgoing, which have been delayed. The wait time is around 82 minutes.

FlightAware reported, ‘The major airport with the highest percentage of affected flights is Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP), where 73% of departing flights and 64% of arriving flights have reportedly been cancelled.

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport also released a statement on its social media Sunday morning, showcasing the strictness of the winter storms that disrupted the process at the airport.

"Fake spring came to an end as snow arrived at MSP Saturday evening," it said. On Sunday, Airlines have already cancelled more than 450 flights to and from MSP. To keep yourself on the safe side, you should collect the latest flight information.
