In a significant move to establish Haryana as a major travel destination, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has revealed plans to build India's first amusement park in the pattern of Disneyland in Manesar, Gurugram. On the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Motorway, the planned property is ideally situated and covers 500 acres close to Pachgaon Chowk.
Haryana's larger initiative to promote tourism and cultural preservation includes the project. The project is a "game-changer," according to CM Saini, who recently met with Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. It has the potential to put the NCR on the same global tourism map as California, Paris, and Tokyo.
Manesar: Why?
The site was picked because it is close to important economic centres and has excellent connectivity. The Delhi-Gurugram and Dwarka Motorways, as well as the 1,000-acre Global City project, are nearby. Through the soon-to-be Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor, the region is very well connected.
The best site for a park modelled after Disneyland is here. The region has enormous market potential and is conveniently accessible to individuals throughout the NCR, according to Saini.
The initiative has the potential to improve regional infrastructure and create thousands of employment, the Chief Minister stressed. He went on to say that Haryana and beyond would get social, cultural, and economic advantages from the park.
Bridging the Gap in Entertainment
The action follows Gurugram's Kingdom of Dreams (KoD) closure in 2022. Originally intended to be India's Broadway, KoD failed because of legal and financial problems. The city's entertainment industry is anticipated to be revitalised by the new project.
A Flashback to Politics
Interestingly, in 1989, then-CM Om Prakash Chautala put out a similar plan to bring Disneyland to Haryana, but it was shelved due to land acquisition concerns and political criticism. The BJP has been accused of hypocrisy by INLD's Abhay Singh Chautala, who has questioned the party's previous resistance to such initiatives.
The new idea, which is limited to 500 acres, will guarantee equitable land practices and farmer interests, according to the BJP, which defended the current initiative.
Global Context: Where Are the Disney Parks?
If the project materializes, it would mark Disney’s first officially partnered amusement park in India. Currently, Disney operates 12 theme parks across six resorts globally:
- California, USA – Disneyland Resort
- Florida, USA – Walt Disney World Resort
- Paris, France – Disneyland Paris
- Tokyo, Japan – Tokyo Disney Resort
- Hong Kong – Hong Kong Disneyland
- Shanghai, China – Shanghai Disney Resort
Signature attractions including recognisable castles, immersive rides, and experiences based on Disney's well-loved franchises are available at every resort.
These theme parks, which include Shanghai's futuristic TRON ride, Tokyo DisneySea's maritime adventures, and Anaheim's original Sleeping Beauty Castle, are regarded as industry standards for entertainment and travel.
The Gurugram Disneyland-style theme park has the potential to be a historic addition to India's leisure and tourism industry, drawing both domestic and foreign tourists if it is permitted and built effectively.
