On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, proposed the establishment of a Global Framework for Talent Mobility and pointed out the necessity to change the perspective from "jobs of today" to "capabilities of tomorrow" in their case.

The Ministry of External Affairs released a statement saying that the new framework intends to facilitate the migration of skilled workers, promote international collaboration, and ultimately lead to global development that is inclusive.

PM Modi called upon the G20 countries to make a joint effort for this initiative and stated that skilled talent would be the main factor for the future economic growth. He reminded that the topic of talent mobility was brought up during India's G20 presidency last year and he emphasized the need to keep moving forward with that discussion.

The Prime Minister also extended an invitation to all G20 countries to participate in the AI Impact Summit scheduled for February 2026. The event will be hosted under the theme "Sarvajanam Hitaya, Sarvajanam Sukhaya"—meaning Welfare for All, Happiness for All.

Focus on Human-Centric Technology

Addressing the G20 session titled “A Fair and Just Future for All,” PM Modi emphasized that emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence must remain human-centric and equitable. He outlined India’s AI vision centred on accessible high-compute infrastructure, large-scale talent training and responsible use.

“The world needs technology that is global rather than national, open-source rather than exclusive, and driven by human benefit rather than financial motives,” he stated.

PM Modi cited India’s achievements in digital payments, space technology and AI deployment as examples of how open, inclusive digital ecosystems can support public good.

Call for Global AI Compact

The Prime Minister also proposed a global compact for Artificial Intelligence based on transparency, accountability, safety-by-design and safeguards against misuse. He underscored that while AI can amplify human potential, decisions involving its deployment must always remain under human oversight.

India’s Message to the World

PM Modi concluded his address with a pledge toward global progress rooted in equity, stating:

“India stands for development that is sustainable, trade that is trusted, finance that is fair, and progress in which everyone prospers.”
