JTBC’s high-octane K-drama Good Boy, also streaming globally on Amazon Prime Video, wrapped up with a dramatic and emotional finale that saw justice served—but left fans questioning what’s next. The action-packed series starred Park Bo-gum as Yoon Dong-ju, an ex-boxer turned cop, and followed a unique squad of former Olympians who joined the police force to fight crime in the fictional Insung City.
A Strong Start That Lost Momentum
While Good Boy maintained solid global ratings and a spot in Prime Video’s Top Ten, its narrative arc drew criticism. The show opened with intense action—explosions, betrayals, and a revealed villain—but never quite capitalized on its early momentum. Corrupt customs officer Min Ju-yeong (Oh Jung-se) was identified as the antagonist from the start, undermining the suspense and leaving little room for investigative intrigue. The central romance between Dong-ju and former shooting prodigy Ji Han-na (Kim So-hyun) also felt underdeveloped.
The Big Bad’s Reign Ends with a Bang
In the finale titled "We Are the Champions," Ju-yeong’s empire begins to crumble. His drug operation fails, a deal with the yakuza collapses, and the city falls into chaos with coordinated truck bombings. As he attempts to take out key officials in one final attack, the SCIT team intervenes in time to prevent mass casualties.
Ju-yeong tries to flee, but is cornered by both the SCIT team and the yakuza. In a final rooftop showdown, Dong-ju beats him into submission and handcuffs himself to the corrupt official, dragging him to shore and ensuring his arrest.
What About the Team?
- Each team member finds closure:
- Dong-ju recovers from his brain injuries and starts a new chapter with Han-na.
- Han-na trains for special ops and reconciles with her mother.
- Jong-hyeon returns to fencing.
- Man-sik learns he’s going to be a father again.
- Jae-hong enjoys life with his family.
Is Ju-yeong Really Gone?
Though Ju-yeong ends up in prison, the final scenes suggest otherwise. A masked man strangles him in his cell—but the screen fades before confirming his death. Was it vigilante justice? Or a setup for Season 2?
A Bittersweet, Hopeful Ending
The series closes with Dong-ju running on Haeundae Beach, smiling in his Team Korea jacket. It's a symbol of his redemption and a hopeful future. While Good Boy may have stumbled narratively, its finale delivered the kind of catharsis fans had been waiting for—while keeping the door ajar for more.
