The Trump administration has finalized new reciprocal tariffs on imports from various countries, effective August 7, 2025. The US will maintain a 25% tariff on Indian goods, while slashing duties on Pakistan and Bangladesh amid recent trade developments.

⚖️ Key Tariff Updates

India: 25% tariff maintained; additional penalties related to India’s trade with Russia remain uncertain.

Bangladesh: Tariff cut from 35% to 20%.

Pakistan: Tariff reduced from 29% (April) to 19%, following a new US-Pakistan trade deal announced on July 31.

Taiwan: 20% tariff imposed.

Cambodia & Thailand: 19% tariffs each.

South Africa: 30% tariff set.

Turkey: 15% tariff applied.

Israel & South Korea: 15% tariffs each.

Switzerland: A steep 39% tariff has triggered a weakening Swiss Franc against the US Dollar.

Canada: Tariffs raised to 35% from 25%, following Canada’s recognition of Palestine, though goods under the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement remain exempt.

Implementation Details

Tariffs will apply to goods entered or withdrawn from warehouses for consumption starting 12:01 a.m. EDT on August 7. White House officials clarified this timing is not an extension but allows customs departments to adjust systems for enforcement.

💬 Official Comments

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed frustration with India’s trade policies, especially its dealings with China, describing India as not acting as a “great global actor.”

🌐 Broader Trade Impact

Overall, imports from around 40 countries will face a 15% tariff, while roughly a dozen economies will see higher duties due to recent trade agreements or unilateral US import tax decisions. Many of these countries hold significant trade surpluses with the US.
