Donald Trump Downplays Nobel Peace Prize Prospects, Says He Has ‘No Idea’ If He’ll Win
US President Donald Trump said he has “no idea” about his chances of winning the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, while citing his administration’s role in resolving global conflicts like India-Pakistan and Gaza.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump brushed-off questions posed regarding his candidature for the Nobel Peace Prize, saying that he had "no idea" whether he would be selected for this prestigious honor this year. The Nobel Committee is scheduled to announce the laureates for 2025 on Friday.
“I have no idea… Marco [Rubio] would tell you we settled seven wars. We’re close to settling an eighth. I think we’ll end up settling the Russia situation. I don’t think anybody in history has settled that many. But perhaps they’ll find a reason not to give it to me,” Trump remarked.
The President used the opportunity to highlight what he described as his administration’s achievements in mediating international conflicts, saying no U.S. government “has done more for peace.”
Trump’s Claim on Global Conflict Resolutions
Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for resolving multiple global disputes — including tensions between India and Pakistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Israel and Iran, and Congo and Rwanda, among others.
He specifically cited his alleged role in easing tensions between India and Pakistan after the May 2025 military standoff, which followed India’s Operation Sindoor targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
While Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, have publicly appreciated U.S. intervention, New Delhi has consistently maintained that the ceasefire resulted from direct bilateral talks, rejecting any third-party mediation.
Trump’s Renewed Push for Recognition
This isn’t Trump’s first bid for a Nobel Peace Prize. He was nominated during his first presidential term but did not win. Recently, amid the announcement of a Gaza peace plan brokered between Israel and Hamas, Trump said it would be an “insult to the U.S.” if he wasn’t recognized for his contributions to ending global conflicts.
“They’ll give it to some guy that didn’t do a damn thing,” Trump quipped earlier this month. “They’ll give it to someone who wrote a book about the mind of Donald Trump and what it took to solve the wars.”
Experts Skeptical of Trump’s Chances
Political analysts and Nobel observers remain unconvinced that Trump will clinch the award. According to experts quoted by the Associated Press, the Norwegian Nobel Committee typically honors long-term, multilateral peace efforts rather than short-lived or politically driven initiatives.
“Trump’s diplomatic initiatives have yet to demonstrate lasting impact,” said Theo Zenou, historian and research fellow at the Henry Jackson Society, noting that the Nobel panel values “durable peace and institutional cooperation.”
