Dog Bar Chain Bar K Shuts Down All Locations Across Kansas City, St. Louis, and Oklahoma City
Dog bar chain Bar K has permanently shut down all locations in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Oklahoma City due to financial and operational challenges.
Bar K’s Oklahoma City venue, once buzzing with pet owners and live entertainment, has now closed permanently.

In a disappointing turn for pet lovers, Bar K, a popular dog-friendly bar, restaurant, and park chain, has announced the immediate and permanent closure of all its locations across Kansas City, St. Louis, and Oklahoma City.
The decision, confirmed via a press release on Tuesday, was attributed to a range of operational and financial challenges, including rising inflationary pressures and site-specific issues that have hampered the brand's ability to sustain operations.
“We know Bar K has become a beloved, indispensable destination for you and your pups,” the company said in a heartfelt message. “We understand many of you will be upset and disappointed by this decision... and we thank you for the years of support.”
📍 Bar K Locations That Have Closed:
Kansas City, Missouri: 501 Berkley Pkwy.
St. Louis, Missouri: 4565 McRee Ave.
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: 901 SE 5th St.
🚧 What Led to the Shutdown?
While no single cause was cited, Bar K explained that construction disruptions, financial strain, and legal challenges combined to create an unsustainable environment for the startup.
In Kansas City, the location had become "extremely isolated" due to ongoing construction projects that blocked access and consumed the available parking space.
In St. Louis, Bar K was reportedly embroiled in a lawsuit over unpaid rent totaling nearly $300,000. The lawsuit was filed in 2024 by Green Street, the landlord and local developer, according to local news outlets KSDK and Fox 2.
“As is often the case, there isn’t one single cause, but rather a variety of challenges that ultimately proved too difficult for our startup business to overcome,” the company noted.
🐶 A Community Favorite Says Goodbye
Bar K had built a loyal customer base by blending a full-service bar and restaurant with an expansive dog park—creating a unique social space for both dogs and their humans. The concept gained widespread popularity among pet owners looking for a place to unwind while their pets played safely nearby.
With its closure, many in the local dog-loving community are expressing sadness over the loss of what had become a weekend staple and social hub.
