The Glen Grant brings to India one of the rarest and most precious single malts ever released – The Glen Grant 65-Year-Old. In an interaction with Greig Stables, Master Distiller, The Glen Grant he describes the 65YO as nothing short of an evocative spirit.

Distilled in 1958 and bottled in 2025, every step in its creation took place on the distillery grounds in Rothes, Scotland - from barley malted on-site to the hand-filling of each decanter. Over six decades later, it emerges as one of the rarest and most precious single malts ever released by The Glen Grant.

Born and raised in Speyside, Greig has spent over three decades immersed in whisky, from his early days as a tour guide to learning directly under the legendary Dennis Malcolm. In 2024, he was named Master Distiller, carrying forward The Glen Grant’s 180-year legacy of craftsmanship and innovation. Today, Greig leads a team of 28 in creating every drop of The Glen Grant single malt – made, matured, and bottled entirely on site, a rarity in the whisky world.

How do you determine whether the whisky will mature for 65 years?

We are fortunate at The Glen Grant to have some very special casks maturing in our traditional stone dunnage warehouse. I take pride in my role as Master Distiller and the custodian of these rare casks, checking on them throughout the years to ensure we catch them at their optimal age. This unique cask captures a lifetime of flavour and character from its journey in a single French oak butt. It was selected at this optimal time for its ability to retain the distinct and singular character of The Glen Grant that I am looking for.

What was the roadmap for creating the whisky at that time?

Distilled in slender coal-fired pot stills that define The Glen Grant’s signature style, this whisky was then filled into a single French oak butt and left to mature to perfection for decades. 65 Years later, it was ready to be revealed to the world. It is then a creative collaboration between John Galvin Design and Glasstorm, who took inspiration from the distillery’s iconic Garden of Splendours to craft the design for the first release in the Splendours Collection. Each decanter is a handcrafted masterpiece.

In which global markets is this whisky currently available?

Is this whisky a collector’s item or one to be enjoyed by connoisseurs?

While this 65-Year-Old may be considered a collector’s item, due to its age and status, it is also likely to be of interest to those captured by the craft and provenance of both the whisky and the sculpture it is presented in. The Glen Grant maintains its integrity in oak, even at very high ages, and hope that whisky connoisseurs ultimately get the chance to open it and enjoy it. It is a true experience to taste such a rare and exquisite whisky of this quality.

Could you elaborate on the legacy of the company and the brand?

In 1840, Brothers James and John Grant built The Glen Grant as the first distillery in the town of Rothes in Speyside. They left a legacy of ingenuity by engineering the first northern railroad and introducing electric light to both the distillery and the entire town. In 1872, heir James The Major Grant, a charismatic innovator and adventurous traveler, inherited the business. Through his intrepid journeys to destinations around the world, he made inspiring discoveries which led to the creation of his sprawling Garden of Splendours, the only distillery garden of its kind in Scotland. Inspired by his splendid garden, he envisioned a distinctive single malt, engineering tall, slender pot stills combined with unique water-cooling purifiers to create the evocative flavour profile that defines The Glen Grant Single Malt Scotch Whisky to this day.

How important are the various distilling processes in shaping the final whisky?

A: Every component in the whisky creation process plays a key role in the end result. Each whisky from The Glen Grant distillery features a signature profile thanks to tall, slender copper pot stills and water-cooling purifiers as well as our robust and quality focused wood policy which ensures we have the very best casks in which to mature our spirit in traditional stone dunnage warehouses. The Glen Grant prides itself on creating and bottling entirely on distillery grounds, ensuring the utmost quality and meticulous approach.
