Minneapolis, USA — A Delta Air Lines flight en route from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam was forced to make an emergency landing at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport after encountering severe mid-air turbulence that left 25 passengers injured.

Emergency Landing After Turbulence Strikes

The aircraft, an Airbus A330-900, experienced intense turbulence mid-flight, prompting immediate medical attention upon landing. Delta confirmed that all injured passengers were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment. Details about the extent of the injuries have not yet been officially disclosed.

In a statement, Delta Air Lines said:

“Turbulence is rare but can be unpredictable. The aircraft landed safely at MSP, where it was met by medical personnel to evaluate customers and crew. We are grateful for the quick response of emergency services.”

Delta Responds With Support

Delta emphasized that passenger safety remains its highest priority:

“Safety is our No. 1 value at Delta, and our Delta Care Team is working directly with impacted customers to support their immediate needs.”

The flight had originally taken off from Salt Lake City International Airport and was scheduled to arrive at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, before the turbulence prompted an unplanned stopover in Minneapolis.

What Causes Turbulence?

Turbulence is caused by sudden changes in air pressure and weather patterns and is typically harmless, though, in rare cases like this, it can result in injuries, especially if passengers are not wearing seatbelts.

Aviation Safety Under Focus

This incident puts renewed focus on aviation safety measures and the importance of following crew instructions during flight. Airlines routinely advise passengers to keep their seatbelts fastened while seated to mitigate the risks posed by unexpected turbulence.
