China Vows Strong Countermeasures as U.S. Considers 50% Tariff Hike

China has rejected the "blackmailing" by the United States and has vowed to "fight until the end" should Washington impose new, steep China US tariffs. US President Donald Trump threatened to impose additional 50% tariffs on Chinese imports, unless Beijing backed down from its own retaliatory actions.

China condemned the latest tariff threat from the United States, and warned it would not submit to China economic intimidation. The Commerce Ministry issued a statement stating it will not be intimidated by what they called "tariff blackmail". Chinese officials claimed that the United States imposed tariffs based on "unfounded" reasons and that they would not back down.

"The US threat of increasing Donald Trump tariffs against China was a mistake on a top of a previous mistake. It once again exposed the US's blackmailing character. China will not accept this. China will fight to the bitter end if the US insists that it must go its own way. Chinese Commerce Ministry On Tuesday, he said:

The ministry called on Washington to end all unilateral tariff measures and resolve disputes through dialogue. The ministry stated that "China urges United States to immediately rectify their wrong practices and cancel US trade war against China." The Chinese government said that if the U.S. wants to have its way, it will do so.

"The countermeasures China took are meant to protect its sovereignty, development and security interests and maintain the normal order of international trade. The ministry stated that they were completely legal. The threat by the US to increase EU counter-tariffs against China is an additional mistake, and exposes once more the US's blackmailing behavior. China will not accept this. "If the US insists that it has its own way, China is going to fight until the bitter end."

These remarks followed warnings from U.S. president Donald Trump that China's latest round of retaliatory tariffs would soon be subject to an additional 50% in the event Beijing did not withdraw them. Washington's Federal Reserve interest rates has become more aggressive. On Monday, Trump doubled down and threatened to slap 50% more tariffs on Chinese imports, on top of 34% that he announced only days before.
