China Named Safest Country in Asia; India Ranks Ahead of US, UK in Global Safety Index
China tops Asia in Numbeo’s 2025 Safety Index; India ranks 66th, ahead of US and UK. Andorra named world’s safest country, Venezuela the least safe.

China received a score of 76.0 points on the Numbeo Safety Index 2025, which measures public perceptions of crime, trust in law enforcement, and personal safety, making it the safest country in Asia and 15th overall.
India achieved a remarkable performance, ranking 66th out of 147 countries with a safety score of 55.7, ahead of several developed countries, such as the United States (89th, score: 50.8), and the United Kingdom (87th, score: 51.7).
In South Asia, India's Position
Sri Lanka came in at number 59 (score: 57.9), followed closely by Pakistan at number 65 (score: 56.3), and Bangladesh trailed far behind at number 126 (score: 38.4) among its neighbours in South Asia.
Andorra Tops the Global List
At the top of the global rankings is Andorra, a small European nation nestled between France and Spain, named the safest country in the world with a score of 84.7, thanks to its low crime rate and high public trust in safety systems.

Asia's Top Performers
Apart from China, several other Asian nations performed strongly:
- Hong Kong – 78.5 (7th globally)
- Singapore – 77.4 (9th globally)
- Japan – 77.1 (10th globally)
- Taiwan – 82.9 (4th globally)
World's Least Safe Countries
At the bottom of the index, Venezuela ranked last with a safety score of just 19.3. Other countries with low safety scores include:
- Papua New Guinea – 19.7
- Haiti – 21.1
- Afghanistan – 24.9
- South Africa – 25.3
