Originally set for May 29, the historic Ax-4 mission featuring Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla faces delays due to weather and technical setbacks. Here's the latest update.

🚀 When Will Ax-4 Mission Launch?

The highly anticipated Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), which will carry Shubhanshu Shukla — the first Indian astronaut to visit the International Space Station (ISS) — has faced multiple delays. Originally scheduled for May 29, the launch has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions and ongoing technical issues, including a fuel leak investigation involving the Falcon-9 rocket.

NASA’s Dana Weigel, Manager of the ISS Program, confirmed that launch windows are open through June 30, with further opportunities likely in mid-July. These dates depend on ISS traffic coordination, including the undocking of Russia’s Progress cargo spacecraft and the docking of a new vehicle in early July.

🌞 Why the Delay? High Solar Beta & ISS Traffic

The delay is also influenced by a phenomenon known as “high solar beta,” where the Sun’s angle creates thermal challenges for spacecraft. These environmental factors necessitate temporary suspension of launch activities for safety and mission assurance.

🇮🇳 India's Shubhanshu Shukla to Make History

The Ax-4 mission, operated by Axiom Space and launching from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, will mark a significant moment in India’s space journey. Shukla, a veteran test pilot with over 2,000 flying hours, will spend 10 days aboard the ISS, conducting microgravity experiments and contributing to international space research.

His participation is a symbol of India's commitment to space innovation, following his involvement in the Gaganyaan program and extensive training in both Russia and India.

🤝 Global Collaboration in Space Exploration

Ax-4 also highlights the growing synergy between NASA, commercial partners like SpaceX, and international stakeholders. As space missions become more commercialized, Ax-4 reinforces the ISS’s role as a platform for global cooperation and scientific progress.

📅 What’s Next for Ax-4?

While SpaceX has not confirmed the exact new launch date, NASA assures that multiple windows remain open, offering flexibility. As final checks continue, global attention remains fixed on the launch timeline.

If successful, Ax-4 will not only elevate India's space legacy but also inspire future generations in STEM fields and solidify India’s position in the human spaceflight arena.
