The Artemis II mission is reaching its final destination as four brave explorers, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen, will prepare for their final journey back home.

The Artemis astronauts are now focusing on the most intense part of their trip: the re-entry and splashdown after a historic flight around the Moon. This mission has already broken records, taking humans further into space than ever before. Now, the world watches as they get ready to return to our blue planet.

The Orion spacecraft designed by NASA is to handle extreme conditions, and it will surely be tested during the Artemis II return to Earth. The capsule travel speed capacity is 30 times faster than sound as soon as it enters in our atmosphere. The friction will cause temperatures outside the craft to soar to a staggering 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit—about half as hot as the sun! To keep the crew safe, a special shield will slowly burn away, absorbing the heat and protecting the cabin.

A set of large parachutes will deploy to guide the capsule gently toward the water as soon as the spacecraft slows down. The team is scheduled to land in the Pacific Ocean, near the coast of San Diego. Ships and recovery teams will be ready to welcome the crew.

In short, this mission is a big step forward in terms of space travel as it proves that we can send people deep into space and bring them back safely. The data collection during this 10-day trip was a big help to the experts who plan future landings on the Moon’s surface. For now, the focus remains on a successful finish to an incredible journey.
