India Pakistan latest news: In the early hours of Saturday morning across a variety of Pakistani base airfields, which included one crucial installation close to the capital Islamabad and prompted authorities of the Pakistani government to block its airspace for all commercial and civilian traffic. Numerous explosions were heard in Srinagar early this morning, just minutes after India defeated Pakistani drones.
The Pakistani military has said that the explosions took place at three air force facilities including three air bases, including Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi an important location located less than 10 km from Islamabad and close to the headquarters of the military in Pakistan.
Many videos are being circulated online Pakistani websites and other social platforms purportly show Nur Khan Air Base on fire after a huge explosion. NDTV was unable to independently verify the authenticity of these images. Eyewitnesses reported loud, alternating explosions that were followed by a torrent of military activities in the air.
The Three Airbases
It is Murid Air Base is Pakistan's primary UAV (UAV) facility, which is devoted mostly to drone warfare and other reconnaissance operations. It is home to a fleet which includes the locally created Shahpar I for surveillance missions and it's NESCOM Burraq UAV for armed strikes, and the Turkish-built Bayraktar drone that has been extensively used in combat deployment, with a particular focus on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Pakistan Airspace Shut
Pakistan today closed its airspace to all flights, just hours after India claimed it was using commercial flights to protect itself from drone attacks. The Operation Sindoor move, announced via the Notice To Airmen (NOTAM) it came amid tensions that have risen among the nuclear-armed neighbors.
The incident follows an evening of intensive drone activity along the border between India's western and northern regions and after Pakistan initiated a coordinated campaign of drone strikes targeting military installations across 26 sites that range between Leh to the north, to Sir Creek in the south.
