Aeroplane-Sized Asteroids Speeding Toward Earth, Says NASA — Check Full Details

NASA reports four asteroids, including 87-foot 2025-TN2, will safely pass by Earth today. No collision risk, says NASA. Check asteroid names, sizes, and distances.

NASA confirms asteroid 2025-TN2 — roughly the size of an aeroplane — will safely pass Earth today at a distance of 1.34 million km.

NASA has disclosed that today several asteroids are making close passes by Earth, with one of them being as big as a plane. The brightest star of the group, asteroid 2025-TN2, has a diameter of about 87 feet and will come the closest to Earth at a safe distance of 1.34 million kilometers.

🚀 No Threat to Earth, Confirms NASA

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) states that asteroid 2025-TN2 is not a threat to the Earth. Though it is moving very fast, the asteroid will still be able to pass Earth without any danger of collision.

The asteroid is the largest of four that will approach Earth on this Thursday. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), which monitors the movement of near-Earth objects (NEOs), has named the other three asteroids as 2025 SJ29, 2025 TF1, and 2020 QU5; they measure 55 feet, 65 feet, and 81 feet across, respectively.

☄️ Four Asteroids Approaching Earth Today

Here’s a quick look at the space rocks tracked by NASA:

  • 2025-TN2 – 87 feet wide (aeroplane-sized), passing at 1.34 million km
  • 2025-SJ29 – 55 feet wide (house-sized)
  • 2025-TF1 – 65 feet wide (house-sized)
  • 2020-QU5 – 81 feet wide (aeroplane-sized)

All four are expected to safely pass Earth without incident.

🛰️ Small Asteroid Passed Earth Unnoticed Last Week

Last week, an astonishingly small asteroid made its way past Earth, coming closer than most satellites—and the astronomers only discovered it later after a couple of hours.

The European Space Agency (ESA) announced that the asteroid, which has been designated 2025-TF, passed the Earth on September 30 at 8:47 PM EDT and was only 428 kilometers above Antarctica—a height lower than that of the International Space Station (ISS).

The size of the asteroid was between 1-3 meters, which the ESA confirmed would have incinerated as a bright fireball if it had entered the atmosphere. It was a good thing that it was not a dangerous one and passed safely by all satellites and spacecraft.

🌍 NASA & ESA Continue Tracking Near-Earth Objects

Both NASA and ESA continuously monitor thousands of near-Earth objects (NEOs) to detect potential threats. Current data indicates no known asteroid poses a danger to Earth for at least the next 100 years.

To be classified as “potentially hazardous,” an asteroid must be at least 460 feet wide and come within 7.48 million km of Earth — about 20 times the distance to the Moon. The recently spotted 2025-TF was much smaller and far below this risk threshold.
