Apple’s strategic shift away from China is paying off for Tata Electronics, which has rapidly emerged as a key player in the iPhone supply chain. In FY25, nearly 37% of Tata Electronics’ revenue—over ₹23,112 crore—came from iPhone exports to the United States, according to filings with the Registrar of Companies (RoC).

Global Markets Beyond the US

While the US was the single-largest market, Ireland contributed 23% (₹14,255 crore) and Taiwan accounted for 15% of Tata’s revenue. The domestic Indian market represented about 20%.

Just a year ago, Tata’s assembly lines were focused mainly on Taiwan and India. The pivot towards the US underscores how Apple had already begun diverting production to India ahead of President Donald Trump’s renewed tariff push earlier this year.

Apple’s Tariff Shield Strategy

Trump has repeatedly threatened steep tariffs on Chinese electronics, prompting Apple to diversify its global supply chain. The move has helped Tata capitalize on the shift.

“Now that over 70% of all iPhones sold in the US are produced in India, Tata Electronics’ revenues are set to rise further as iPhone production scales up,” said Tarun Pathak, Director at Counterpoint Research, to Economic Times. He also noted that Foxconn remains India’s top iPhone assembler despite Tata’s fast-growing footprint.

Tata’s Expansion Through Acquisitions

Tata Electronics accelerated its growth with key takeovers:

  • March 2024: Acquired Wistron’s India plant in Karnataka, now renamed Tata Electronics Systems Solutions.
  • January 2025: Purchased a 60% stake in Pegatron Technology India for ₹1,650 crore. Pegatron’s Tamil Nadu facility now operates under Tata control.

Pegatron India (renamed Tata Electronics Products and Solutions Pvt Ltd) reported an 84% surge in revenue to ₹34,264 crore in FY25, though net profit rose only 1% to ₹633 crore.

Tata Electronics’ Financial Surge

Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd, the Tata Group’s dedicated electronics manufacturing arm, posted a remarkable jump in consolidated operating income to ₹66,206 crore in FY25, compared to just ₹3,752 crore the previous year. The company’s net loss narrowed to ₹69 crore from ₹825 crore, reflecting operational improvements despite rapid scaling.
