Huge disaster- "A nightmarish night for the northeastern Moroccan city of Fes, wherein a pair of residential buildings fell without warning, killing no fewer than 19 people and injuring as many as 16," said the official news agency.

The structures' crumbled four-storey buildings were situated in one of the most historic neighborhoods of the town. Shortly after the incident, rescue, civil protection units, security forces, and local residents all set out to rescue those who were buried beneath the rubble.

Apparently, reports have been emerging about the two buildings, one of which was housing eight assorted families at the time of the collapse. Those who survived were rushed to the hospital's University Centre in Fez, while a full-fledged rescue operation for those remaining under the rubble was put into place.

The structures in question are said to have sported distinguishable cracks for some time, but ironically, state news agency SNRT claimed that there was never any action taken.

The collapse today offered an opportunity for local authorities to initiate a factual investigation of the cause and to assess the stability of surrounding buildings.
