6G Target Realisation Calls For Strong Push

Mumbai: Meeting India’s 2030 6G commercialization target requires revolutionary approaches to deployment speed. The current rate—increasing rural wireless subscribers from 523.28 million to 525.41 million in a month—shows progress but requires acceleration.
Speaking to Bizz Buzz, Manoj Kumar Singh, Director General, Digital Infrastructure Providers Association says, “Parallel deployment pathways’ where multiple technologies advance simultaneously rather than sequentially offer one solution. While fiber reaches 2.64 lakh Gram Panchayats in ring topology, advanced wireless solutions can create immediate connectivity while the fiber backbone expands.” The 100 new 5G labs established across academic institutions can function as regional deployment hubs, training local technology partners who accelerate installations in their regions. Dr Sushil Kumar Chaturvedi, Group CEO, Ascend Telecom says, “The teledensity gap demands a fundamental rethinking of infrastructure models.
Traditional tower-based deployment simply won’t scale fast enough for 6G implementation by 2030. ‘Micro-infrastructure networks’ offer a more viable path - deploying thousands of small cells and integrated street furniture that combine connectivity with other community services.” The existing 8.24 lakh towers nationwide have successfully extended 4G to 618,968 villages, but 6G will require density at least 10 times greater. The solution isn’t just more infrastructure—it’s smarter infrastructure. Self-powered, solar-based units eliminate dependence on reliable grid connectivity, which remains challenging in many rural areas.
