T Works to pave the way for product innovation

Hyderabad: Telangana government has invested Rs 115 crore so far to establish T-Works, India’s largest prototyping facility in Hyderabad. It has spent around Rs 100 crore for the building and about Rs 15 crore for the latest cutting edge equipment, which was imported from countries like US, Germany and Finland. Corporate companies like GE and Qualcomm have also committed to donate money for the equipment.
The centre will be formally inaugurated by Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) Chairman Young Liu today (March 2, 2023). Revealing more details about the new facility, Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said, “T-Works will accelerate India’s journey to become a leader in product innovation. It is an effort to create and celebrate the culture of hobbyists, makers and innovators.”
The current facility is about 0.78 lakh sq ft in Phase I. It will be expanded to 2.5 lakh sq ft, he said, adding that T-Works would focus on product design, engineering, fabrication, sourcing, materials and other aspects. “We want this facility to be self-sufficient like T-Hub. We will evolve pay-per-use mechanisms. However, the price will be low. The effort is to lower entry barriers in the hardware segment.”
The minister further said, “Satellite centres of T-Works will be set up in Nizamabad, Khammam, Karimnagar, Siddipet and Warangal. At some of these centres, IT towers are already available and at the rest of the places they are being built. These centres will provide talent development and upskilling opportunities to the innovators from the rural parts of the State.”
“Right from a seed-sowing tool to a rocket, it offers varied opportunities by providing a platform to everyone interested in the product innovation. The Government of India is not supporting us by giving us a National Institute of Design. We will work to evolve a design ecosystem with T-Works. We have facilities to make new products and more machinery will come soon,” he added.
