RINL rises to occasion, meets demand for medical oxygen

Visakhapatnam: TWITTERATI is all praise for Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited for its Covid Appropriate Behaviour in rising to the occasion in helping others breathe easy by providing medical oxygen.

A spokesman for RINL, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant told Bizz Buzz that they have decided to ramp up their medical oxygen production on receipt of SOS from the government authorities. Incidentally, VSP has an Air Separation Plant and the oxygen collected from the air is used in gas form as raw material to ignite the blast furnaces.

After a tweet by RINL through its handle@RINL_VSP "rising to the occasion of oxygen requirements for Covid patients during this pandemic crisis, #RINL has already supplied apprx 400 tonne of LMO (liquid medical oxygen) last week to various destinations in AP and other States as instructed by government authorities," many have praised the company for its contribution.

The company said it is committed to meet the demand of 02 requirements substantially to AP and other States for the alleviation of human sufferings. RINL supplied 8,842 tonne of 02 during the last financial year as per requirement.

Responding to the tweet, Katam SS Chandra Rao said "society first, steel production next. Oxygen is major material for steel production but the attitude of VSP is people first. Good gesture."

Another netizen Vinay responded with the reply "See the oxygen supply by Vizag Steel in this crisis. We will raise our head high and we will fight and we will win. God is with us. This entire credit goes to persons who sacrificed their lives for the plant. Amaraveerulaku joharr."

Dwaramswamy, an executive, remarked: "Right from inception serving the needy with passion and steely resolve is the hallmark of RINL managmeent's philosophy. Long live RINL."

The air separation plant of RINL has five units of oxygen extraction plants for its 7.3 million tonne per annum steel plant out of which three units are of 550 tonne capacity and two are of 600 tonne capacity.

Every day on an average, ASP produces 2,600 tonne of oxygen gas and 100 tonne of liquid oxygen. The liquid oxygen of 100 tonne is being given out for medical purposes. Recently, the government asked RINL to double the production of medical oxygen in view of the current scarcity.

"RINL is committed to meet the demand of O2 requirements substantially to AP and other States for the alleviation of human sufferings. Last FY20-21 also RINL supplied 8,842 tonne of O2 as per requirement," the company said.

Railways runs Oxygen Express

Railways is operating a special train named Oxygen Express to transport medical oxygen to various destinations. One such train is reaching Visakhapatnam to ferry medical oxygen to Maharashtra.

Team Mumbai Division of Railways has built a ramp within 24 hours at Kalamboli goods yard to facilitate loading/unloading of tankers in/from flat wagons. The Ro-Ro service with seven empty tankers departed from Kalamboli goods yard for Visakhapatnam Steel Plant siding.
