Visakhapatnam INS Sumitra has been designated as the Presidential Yacht for President of India Ram Nath Kovind during the President's Fleet Review (PFR) here on February 21.

INS Sumitra, designed and built at Goa Shipyard Ltd is the fourth and last Saryu class patrol vessel of the Indian Navy. It has a capacity to undertake fleet support operations, coastal and offshore patrolling, ocean surveillance and monitoring sea line communications.

Sixty ships manned by 10,000-odd personnel from the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Shipping Corporation of India and MoES will take part in the review of their preparedness. The Navy will showcase the three-dimensional operational might.

The President on-board INS Sumitra will sail through a formation of 44 ships symmetrically anchored off the coast of the City of Destiny, Visakhapatnam. Additionally, a 55 naval aircraft flypast, submarine & ship formation steam past, water para jumps by the elite marine commandos, search and rescue demonstration at sea, aerobatics by Hawk aircraft & a parade of sailboats including the famous Mhadei will be showcased.

During the PFR, a specially designed First Day Cover and a Commemorative Stamp will be released by the President. Devusinh J Chauhan, Minister of State for Communication will be present on the occasion.

MILAN

The Eastern Naval Command is also getting ready to host multinational naval exercise MILAN-22 from February 25 to March 4. Four lakh plus Vizagites will witness Op (operational) Demo and City Parade.

Over 45 countries have been invited to the event with an aim to foster mutual understanding, cooperation and interoperability. Foreign participation is to include more than 15 overseas warships & aircraft, 11 Chiefs of Navies & Coast Guard & over 120 delegates. International Liaison Officers posted at Information Fusion Centre --Indian Ocean Region (IFCIOR), over 2,000 naval personnel embarked on foreign warships & aircraft, 35-odd contingents in International City Parade, a multi-dimensional Op Demo & Flypast.
