Over 100 CEOs from agri-food space to attend The Food Conclave

Hyderabad: More than 100 CEOs from leading companies of the agri-food sector across India will attend The Food Conclave in Hyderabad this Saturday (April 29, 2023). Telangana government’s maiden annual event is all set to bring together business leaders, academic experts and farmer producer organisations (FPOs) in the agri-food sector to explore key trends and innovations in the industry.

“India has an opportunity to supply food to the world, but we could not or we chose not to due to the issues like food security, price inflation, quality of food products and cropping patterns. In this backdrop, we want to showcase how Telangana is handling this situation by protecting the interests of the farmers, domestic consumers and the overseas markets,” Telangana State Food Processing Society (TSFPS) Director Akhil Kumar Gawar told Bizz Buzz.

He said: “Today, the State has plenty of water resources and government schemes to support agriculture. So, we are looking at the five revolutions that are happening as a consequence. Because of irrigation facilities and water infrastructure, the State has enhanced water supply and increased production of food crops and commercial crops, having more food for people as well as animal and fish feed. This has multiplied the growth of livestock and fisheries giving a boost to the milk and meat production.”

Akhil further said that all these developments during the last few years have led to green, yellow, white, pink and blue revolutions in the State. “By organising The Food Conclave, the State government is allowing the people to take advantage of this chain of opportunities,” he added.

The event will have five thematic tracks covering green, yellow, white, pink and blue revolutions that represent agriculture, edible oil, dairy, meat and poultry and aquaculture segments respectively. It has renowned knowledge partners such as the World Economic Forum-India, Indian Vegetable Oil Producers Association, Indian Dairy Association, Heifer International and Society of Aquaculture Professionals. World Trade Center (WTC) Shamshabad has also partnered with the organisers.

Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao, Agriculture minister S Niranjan Reddy, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Niti Aayog Member Ramesh Chand, Telangana Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari, and other dignitaries will speak in the opening plenary session highlighting the State’s efforts and successes in transforming the agri-food sector.

The event will host 22 panel discussions, five sectoral roundtables, and over 40 one-on-one meetings between Telangana government and industry leaders. It will provide the attendees with unparalleled opportunities for networking, knowledge-sharing, and exploring potential investment opportunities in the agri-food sector.

The inaugural panel at the event, themed ‘Envisioning India's decade in the agri-food sector’ will discuss ways to create a revolutionary thought process that can unlock the sector's growth potential. World Food Prize laureate Dr MV Gupta, Indian Dairy Association President RS Sodhi, ITC Group Agribusiness Head S Siva Kumar and Swiggy Co-founder Nandan Reddy are the speakers of this session.

As the world marches forward with advancements in technology, medicine, and other fields, it's time for India to accelerate growth in the agri-food sector. With a population of about 1.4 billion people, the country has the potential to become a global food bowl, providing food not only for its own people but also for the rest of the world.

The plenary will also discuss the State's future plans and opportunities for collaboration with stakeholders to further accelerate growth in the agri-food space.

The themes of other panel discussions are – ‘Can India be the food bowl for the world while ensuring its own food security’, ‘Market-linked production - How to recalibrate?’, Managing the macro-risks: climate change, war, disease, trade embargoes, etc’, and ‘Where are India’s next agri-food unicorns?’. Apart from these, there are various panel discussions under each thematic track.
