NRDC joins WIPO Green to promote sustainable tech

Visakhapatnam National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology has joined World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Green as a partner in its green technology database globally.

WIPO Green is the marketplace for sustainable technology administered by the premier body of the United Nation in order to promote environmentally-friendly innovation and the diffusion of green technologies. It is an online platform for technology exchange.

WIPO Green matches green technology providers with technology-seekers through its online database of green technologies (patents, products, know-how) listed by participating organisations and promotes utilisation of green technologies. It supports global efforts to address climate change by connecting providers and seekers of environmentally-friendly technologies. Through its database, network and acceleration projects, it brings together key players to catalyze green technology innovation and diffusion, NRDC regional manager Dr BK Sahu told Bizz Buzz on Tuesday.

The Visakhapatnam centre of NRDC, which looks after entire South India, Odisha and Chattisgarh has so far facilitated transfer of 50 technologies and guides startups and others on the need for patenting their innovative creations. Dr Sahu, who heads the regional centre here to facilitate IP commercialisation, technology transfer and licencing, said NRDC as a national technology transfer entity and has been serving the nation for more than six decades in technology information, technology transfer and IP management, with the objective to promote, develop and commercialize the technologies / know-how/ inventions/patents/processes emanating from various national R&D institutions/ universities.

NRDC headed by Chairman and Managing Director Commodore Amit Rastogi (retd), has forged strong links with the scientific and industrial community in India and abroad and developed a wide network of research institutions, academia and industry and made formal arrangements with them for the commercialisation of know-how developed in their laboratories. It has transferred and licensed the indigenous innovative technology to over 5,000 entrepreneurs. Dr Sahu said the NRDC and WIPO Green are keen on contributing to their common goal of technology transfer related to climate change, dissemination of environmentally sound technologies and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

While emphasising on this development, Commodore Rastogi said: “Being the leading technology transfer organisation under the Ministry of Science and Technology, NRDC looks forward to having an active engagement with respect to WIPO Greens charter and contribute to bring green technologies, serving UN SDGs, to the fore.”
