In a bid to enhance industry-academic linkages, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE)-Mumbai, has developed 14 multi-disciplinary courses aligned with the PM GatiShakti (PMGS) National Master Plan taking inputs from various industries. The NITIE has been designated as the nodal hub by the Ministry of Education (MoE) for capacity building in logistics and supply chain Management to promote the PMGS National Master Plan.

These template courses were also shared with other institutes; all the institutes are free to tailor these courses or introduce new courses based on their focus areas in tune with PMGS. Case studies will be developed in alignment with the PMGS National Master Plan, official sources told Bizz Buzz.

To promote the PM GS National Master Plan, educational institutes have been offering courses for capacity building in logistics and supply chains such as agri-supply chain management, digital supply chain management, road transport, air transport, warehouse management, and multi-modal logistics.

Students in Masters’ and Bachelors’ level programmes are given projects and internships in logistics & supply chain management to encourage exposure and practical applications. This, the sources said, will promote innovation & start-up culture with clear objectives to reduce the logistics cost.

The Department of Higher Education, which is under the DoE, has conducted multiple meetings and workshops on capacity building with more than 120 Centrally-funded institutes to promote the PMGS National Master Plan.

These courses, the sources said, will train students and professionals in the multidisciplinary areas of port operation, cargo handling, multimodal logistics, warehousing, and digitization.

The courses will also promote innovation and new business ideas. These will promote the ideation of new projects and internships aligned to the PMGS National Master Plan and New Education Policy 2020.

The PM GS National Master Plan was launched in 2021 for providing multimodal connectivity infrastructure to various economic zones.
