Nephrocare India ses up a kidney care clinic at Chandannagar in W Bengal
Mumbai, Feb 16: Nephrocare India, a comprehensive renal care institution founded by renowned nephrologist Dr. Pratim Sengupta, has set up its fourth comprehensive kidney care unit at Chandannagar in the Hooghly district of West Bengal at an investment of around Rs 3-4 crore. It plans to set up two more centres in the State taking the total number to six by the end of this financial year.
The company’s comprehensive kidney care units are equipped with complete diagnostic armamentarium to address all needs of a kidney patient including pharmacy, 12-bedded modern dialysis facility, critical renal patient care setup, along with lifestyle yoga and nutritional care departments and is backed by its unique patient-centric IT solution. Plans are afoot to set up 22 such high-end facilities by March 2026.
The Chandannagar unit was inaugurated on Thursday in the presence of esteemed dignitaries including the Mayor Ram Kumar Chakraborty; Piyali Basak, mountaineer and Anirban Chakraborty, actor among others.
Inaugurating the comprehensive kidney care centre at Chandannagar, Dr Pratim Sengupta, Founder and Managing Director of Nephrocare, said, there has been a huge spurt in the number of patients suffering from chronic kidney disease in India with the country turning into a Diabetic Capital of the world. The country therefore needs multiple holistic renal care clinics to protect, treat and improve quality of life of crores of CKD (chronic kidney disease) patients. Lack of proper infrastructure and access to specialised renal care clinics are some of the main reasons for India to have such a huge burden of end stage kidney disease patients.
Nephrocare India has a vision of reaching out and impacting lives of close to one million patients suffering from chronic kidney disease by setting up 300 such centres across the country in the next 10-15 years.
“With the opening of the Chandannagar unit we now have four units in West Bengal. We plan to set up two more centres in Shyambazar and North Bengal by the end of this fiscal and open 22 high-end facilities across the country primarily in west and south India by March 2026. Estimates suggest that there are around seven crore patients suffering from various chronic kidney disease but only around 12,881 haemodialysis centres which are capable of performing dialysis across the country. Lack of proper infrastructure and access to specialised renal care clinics are some of the main reasons for India to have such a huge burden of end stage kidney disease patients. With a view to bridging this gap, we have envisioned setting up of close to 300 comprehensive renal care facilities, by adopting the hub and spoke model, across the country in the next 8-10 years. We are looking to rope in partners to support our ambitious growth plans,” Sengupta said.
The company is also exploring various options for raising funds, including an initial public offer (IPO), to meet its growth objective. It had recently announced the successful closure of its pre-IPO round with marquee investors, including Deepak Parekh (veteran banker and former chairman of HDFC Ltd), Bharat Shah (Chairman, HDFC Securities) and Rajendra Agarwal (Founder and MD of Macleods Pharmaceuticals), among others, participating in the funding round.
Nephrocare India, which commemorated its second anniversary recently, had launched a Mascot - “Mr Nephrocare” to generate awareness around kidney health across the country. The company plans to take its Mascot to various strategic locations such as metro station, railway stations, bus stops, parks and malls, both within and outside the state of West Bengal to draw people’s attention around the need to focus on kidney care over the next 12 months.
