LDF expo will focus on Dalit Bandhu scheme beneficiaries

Hyderabad Hyderabad International Trade Expositions Ltd (Hitex) and Aqua Farming Technologies and Solutions have come together for hosting, LDF India 2023. The event, supported by Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce, will act as a platform to showcase Telangana as an investment centre for the livestock, dairy and fishery (LDF) sector. And, guide Dalit Bandhu Scheme beneficiaries about the opportunities available in the sector to start a business.

LDF India is set to be held at Hitex Exhibition. The three-day expo will start from September 21.

A range of products, equipment, technology and solutions of over 200 companies will be exhibited.

According to the organisers, the livestock, dairy and fisheries sector in India generates about 14 per cent of employment. And, 15 per cent of the population in India is Dalits. Hence, the event is an opportunity for the beneficiaries of Telangana State’s Dalit Bandhu scheme, which provides economic support to the weaker section to generate income.

Speaking at the event, Narayana Dasari, Coordinator for DICCI said that Rs 18,000 crore was disbursed under Dalit Bandhu scheme in Huzurabad, Karimnagar district of Telangana. “As you all know, the scheme envisages granting a one-time financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to each Dalit family. This initial capital was given in Huzurabad to help them start an enterprise or buy an asset which gives them recurring earnings,” he told the media.

In its first phase, nearly 32,000 beneficiaries received the aid wherein majority of them set up businesses in the Transport sector. About 2,000 units were set up in animal husbandry, over 1,800 in dairy and 1,500 in goat farming. Arun Kumar, Next Gen Convenor, DICCI said that some of the investments were wise while others were not. Hence, DICCI stepped in to handhold them to choose a business more wisely. “In March, the Cabinet decided to extend the Dalit Bandhu scheme to 1.3 lakh families across the State in 118 of the 119 Assembly constituencies, in the second phase.
