Wipro likely to cut hundreds of jobs to improve margins

Bengaluru: Betting big on AI-led ecosystem, IT major on Wednesday announced the launch of ‘Wipro ai360’, a comprehensive platform integrating all AI capabilities including generative AI, along with the commitment to invest about $1 billion into AI space in the next three years.

According to the company, ‘Wipro ai360’ will bring together around 30,000 professionals of the company working in data analytics and AI from four global business lines. Capabilities across cloud and partnerships; data, analytics and AI; design and consulting; cybersecurity, as well as engineering will be leveraged to develop new solutions and embed AI into all processes and practices, the company said.

“Artificial Intelligence is a fast-moving field, especially with the emergence of generative AI, we expect a fundamental shift up ahead, for all industries. New business models, new ways of working, and new challenges, too. This is exactly why Wipro’s ai360 ecosystem places responsible AI operations at the heart of all our AI work. It’s meant to empower our talent pool and be ubiquitous across all our operations and processes, as well as our solutioning for clients. We are ready for the AI-driven future!," Wipro CEO and Managing Director Thierry Delaporte said.

The company said the committed $1 billion investment would help its to advance Wipro’s AI, data and analytics capabilities and foundation, R&D and platforms apart from building new consulting capabilities. Wipro will also launch a GenAI Seed Accelerator programme under which it will provide select GenAI-focused startups with the required training for becoming enterprise-ready.

To achieve its objective, the Bengaluru-headquartered company will train all 250,000 employees on AI fundamentals and responsible use of AI over the course of the next 12 months, the company said in a release. Earlier, Wipro’s peers including Accenture, TCS, Infosys, and HCL Tech have also shown interest in AI space in recent quarters.
