New Delhi: Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has sharply criticised the condition of National Highway 44 in Bengaluru, calling it “shoddily designed and ill-maintained.”

In a post on X, the Biocon Limited chairperson raised concerns over the key IT corridor connecting the city to Hosur, questioning the standards maintained by the National Highways Authority of India.

She described the stretch as an “eyesore,” pointing to poorly built medians and barricades, along with unpaved shoulders that affect both aesthetics and commuter safety.

“Whilst NHAI boasts of its road infrastructure across the country, why is the country’s key IT corridor NH44 (formerly NH7) so shoddily designed and ill maintained?” she wrote. Mazumdar-Shaw said the issues have persisted despite repeated complaints over several years, with little to no response from authorities. She tagged Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and NHAI in her post, seeking accountability.

Her remarks spotlight growing frustration among commuters and industry leaders over infrastructure gaps in one of India’s busiest technology corridors.

This is not the first time she has flagged civic concerns. Last year, she criticised worsening garbage management in major metros, including Bengaluru, calling it a serious threat to public well-being.
