British chipmaker Arm plans to make its own semiconductors

Upon its Initial Public Offering (IPO) later this year, British chipmaker Arm Ltd plans to build its own semiconductor to showcase the capabilities of its products.

According to sources briefed on the move, Arm will collaborate with manufacturing partners to develop the new semiconductor, and will create a new "solutions engineering" team to develop prototype chips for mobile devices, laptops, and other electronics.

The company's newest chip, on which it has been working for the last six months, FT reports, is "more advanced" than before.

In addition to supplying intellectual property to many chip companies, Arm has partnerships with major chip contract manufacturers.
