IESA hosts 2-day summit on battery mfg & supply chain in Hyd

Hyderabad: India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) on Tuesday commenced its third annual India Battery Manufacturing and Supply Chain Summit (IBMSCS), in Hyderabad. At the two-day event key industry stakeholders are holding discussions on indigenous battery manufacturing in India.
The summit aimed to chart a roadmap for the growth of the sector including battery production and supply chain dynamics, technology advancements, policy frameworks, sustainability practices and circular economy. Over 300 registered attendees, including industry leaders, policymakers, think tanks, and subject matter experts were part of the event.
Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce and IT, Government of Telangana delivering the keynote address said, “The kind of emphasis Central government has given under the ACC (Advanced Chemistry Cell) PLI scheme, the support provided by some States like Telangana, and the dynamism of the private sector, all augurs well for our country. I am confident we can surpass these targets [of 150GWh of ACC] by 2030, and India could possibly go beyond that too. Of the 150 ACC GWh of battery manufacturing in the country, we are very fortunate to get 30 GWh in our State itself.”
He informed that Amara Raja is investing in a 16GWh manufacturing facility in the State. A week ago, at Davos, the Telangana government signed an agreement with Godi Energy for a 12GWh battery manufacturing facility, and it is also in the advanced stages of talks with a few other companies.
The other key speakers included Dr Rahul Walawalkar, Founder, India Energy Storage Alliance; Vijayanand Samudrala, president, Amara Raja; Frank Talluto, Sr Economic Officer, the US Department of State; Vikram Handa, Managing Director, Epsilon and Anjani Mourya, Founder and MD, Altmin. The summit is being organised under the guidance of the India Battery Manufacturing and Supply Chain Council, an initiative launched by IESA in December 2021.
