FDA clears GLP-1 pill Foundayo, challenging Wegovy on convenience and weight-loss results

The FDA clears GLP-1 pill Foundayo, offering a convenient alternative to Wegovy with promising weight-loss results and intensifying competition in the obesity treatment market.
On Wednesday, the US Food and Drug Administration gave approval to the second GLP-1 pill for weight loss. It adds one more choice to a quickly growing arsenal of obesity therapies.
The orforglipron pill, branded as Foundayo, is created by Eli Lilly and Company. It is also promoting the GLP-1 therapies such as Mounjaro for diabetes and Zepbound for obesity. The treatments are used as weekly injections. They can be used as competing drugs such as Wegovy and Ozempic. They have reshaped the scenery of weight management and diabetes care. Millions of the patients all over the world rely on them.
Foundayo is entering the market just months after the U.S. FDA cleared an oral version of Wegovy. It is called the blockbuster obesity drug from Novo Nordisk. Both treatments set up a more suitable pill-based option for GLP-1 therapies. These drugs that mimic a hormone engaged in appetite control, proper digestion, and insulin regulation.
However, Eli Lilly and Company says Foundayo marks a step ahead, as it can be consumed at any point of time. There are no food and water restrictions necessary with the Wegovy pill.
According to Dr. Dan Skovronsky, Lilly’s chief scientific and product officer, “We’ve really designed this to fit into people’s lives as easily as possible.”
The Wegovy pill for Obesity treatment should be consumed in the morning, just before 30 minutes before food or drink. It should give proper time for absorption. According to estimates from Wall Street firm Mizuho, the restriction hasn’t seemed to affect its popularity, though. It’s already being used by more than 400,000 people just in the US.
