Future Generali puts ‘Ability’ ahead of ‘Disability’ in its campaign

Mumbai, Nov 28 Future Generali India Insurance (FGII) is celebrating Divers'Ability' week from 21st – 25th November 2022 in line with its commitment towards building an all inclusive and equitable workplace. This is a special initiative by FGII to mark the upcoming International Day of Disabled Persons on 3rd December, celebrate the contributions of our specially abled employees as also inviting further participation from the community. The celebration is complemented with the launch of a unique campaign #DISABLEDBYYOURJUDGEMENT' which spreads the message to not let your judgement end up disabling your specially abled colleagues.

The theme of the Divers'Abilty' week celebration revolves around spending 'a day in the shoes of…' encouraging employees to experience the possible constraints faced by the specially abled persons using a three pronged approach that includes educating and sensitizing employees, helping them empathize, and recognizing specially abled employees. The weeklong celebrations comprise a slew of experiential activities planned for employees to experience first-hand the possible constrains that the specially abled have to face every day. For instance, employees are provided special handouts to familiarize themselves with the Braille language requesting them to decode a special message in Braille, do activities while they are blind folded and ordering their lunch in sign language. Motivational speakers Virali Modi and Vineet Saraiwala have been invited to share their experiences, educate, and sensitize employees. The event also featured a panel discussion, an exhibition of products made by the specially abled and a talent show.

To commemorate the start of Divers'Abilty' Week, the company has released a short video as part of the campaign, which depicts how specially abled employees are made to feel different by their peers at workplace. It exemplifies how everyone should learn to look past someone's disability and appreciate them for who they are and what they can do.

According to Ruchika Varma, Chief Marketing Officer, Future Generali India Insurance, "The Divers'Ability' week celebrations at FGII is aimed at breaking inherent biases in the workplace and bridge the gap between our diverse employees in a healthy and innovative way. The video takes the narrative ahead and conveys the campaign's central message: 'YOUR JUDGEMENT IS MY DISABILITY.' When we see a specially abled individual, it is easy to paint them with the brush of their disability and ignore their individualities and contributions in the workplace. Instead of telling them how you feel, the video demonstrates how it is time for us to listen. This Divers'Ability' week, our goal is to look at things through a positive lens, with an emphasis on ability and break biases in context to work environment.

We are extremely proud to be an inclusive employer and invite anyone with the necessary skills to join our team and embark on a rewarding journey."
