FICCI to help AP build energy efficiency mechanism

Visakhapatnam: Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) will support Andhra Pradesh in identifying the new potential for energy savings, develop monitoring and support mechanism for the Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT). In recognition of the best efforts of the State Government in the implementation of energy efficiency measures in the industrial sector through PAT Scheme, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has appointed FICCI-an expert agency for identifying the new potential for energy savings, develop monitoring & support mechanism to achieve energy efficiency targets. BEE has been supporting AP in implementation of several programmes on the promotion of energy efficiency in India under the ambit of the EC Act, 2001.
One such scheme which proved to be a game-changer in the Indian energy efficiency scenario was the PAT scheme. The scheme focuses primarily on enhancing the energy efficiency of large energy intensive sectors through accelerated adoption of efficient and low-carbon technologies without any financial burden on the State.
In a communication to Secretary for Energy, Srikant Nagulapalli and AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), the Director General for BEE, Abhay Bhakre said the AP has been given a target of 6.68 mtoe of energy savings by 2030 in line with the road map of Government of India for reducing the total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonne from now to 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2070.
To achieve this, BEE has focused on implementing PAT Scheme on fast track mode in pro-active States like AP apart from other major States and appointed FICCI to support PAT activities in the State.
