EV makers want standardised policy across all States

One Nation one EV Policy is the way forward

Mumbai: Electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers are expecting a standardised policy across all States for easier EV adoption. Several States in India have already rolled out their respective EV policy, whereas few other states are yet to finalise their policies and still under review. States are having differential policies, are now competing with each other to make investments by EV OEMs more lucrative in the respective State.

The policies broadly include subsidies, exemption from road tax, exemption on vehicle registration fees, tax rebates to manufacturers, manpower subsidies and also now additional incentives for States like Haryana. Talking to Bizz Buzz, Nitin Kapoor, Managing Director of Saera Electric Auto Pvt Ltd (SEAPL) says, "As an EV manufacturer, we expect a standardised policy across all states for easier EV adoption."

The company provides customers with both options of affordable and premium vehicles, which comes with lead and lithium battery with enhanced battery range and life. SEAPL also manufactures IoT-enabled and app-enabled vehicles.

Considering many EV OEMs are already expanding their production capacities in multiple States to support the growing demand of EV in the country to have One Nation One EV Policy makes more sense than each State having add ons. It's difficult for a manufacturer to expand its production to a States that are not having adequate incentives with new investments or shift to another location and State which gives a clear advantage considering the Supply chain challenges and high input cost.

"We expect to have one uniform policy roll out plan for EV industry. One Nation one EV Policy is the way forward," he added. SEAPL was the first company to introduce the e-rickshaw in India and the first to receive ICAT (Vehicle Approval Certificate) from the International Centre for Automotive Technology, Manesar.

The signature brand of SEAPL is Mayuri, popular for e-rickshaw and e-cart. The company also manufactures Yogo, the renowned 2W brand. The company registered a year-on-year growth of 205 per cent, to reach Rs 146 crore in FY 2021-22 from Rs 47.74 crore in a year-ago period.
