SDAs asked to focus to bring energy intensive industrial sectors under PAT scheme

With the success of Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) Scheme by achieving 21.95 million tonne of oil equivalent (mtoe) of energy savings under two PAT cycles, the Union Ministry of Power-led Bureau of Energy Efficiency has asked all State Designated Agencies to lay focus on identifying some new energy intensive industrial sectors to bring under the PAT scheme that would help to contribute in achieving the national overall target of 150 mtoe energy savings by 2030.

SDAs asked to focus to bring energy intensive industrial sectors under PAT scheme

Vijayawada With the success of Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) Scheme by achieving 21.95 million tonne of oil equivalent (mtoe) of energy savings under two PAT cycles, the Union Ministry of Power-led Bureau of Energy Efficiency has asked all State Designated Agencies to lay focus on identifying some new energy intensive industrial sectors to bring under the PAT scheme that would help to contribute in achieving the national overall target of 150 mtoe energy savings by 2030.

During a webinar with all the SDAs on functioning of PAT Cells which were set up to monitor the implementation of energy efficiency measures in industries in all the states, Director of BEE and senior economist Milind Deore on behalf of Director General of BEE, Abhay Bakre, said that the objective of BEE is to enhance the energy efficiency across the industrial sector that helps for industrial promotion, economic development and employment generation.

He said that the PAT scheme is a flagship program of BEE that helps to enhance energy efficiency in the industrial sector through efficient use of energy, reduce energy cost in an effective way and also reduce greenhouse gas emissions from industries. He advised the SDAs to identify some more industries to bring under the Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT) scheme.

Deore said that Andhra Pradesh was given a target of 6.68 mtoe of energy savings by 2030 in line with the road map of GoI for reducing the total projected carbon emissions by 887 million tonnes by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2070 at national level. PAT is one of the major schemes that would contribute in achieving the national target of net zero emissions due to which BEE has laid focus on effective implementation of PAT Scheme on a fast track mode.

BEE has appointed FICCI as supporting agency for speed up energy efficiency activities in industries in

Andhra Pradesh, according to a press release issued on Friday.

He said that BEE has been supporting all states in implementation of several programmes to

promote energy conservation and energy efficiency and PAT is one of the major scheme that has

already been proved to be a game changer in enhancing energy efficiency of large energy

intensive industries through accelerated adoption of efficient and low-carbon technologies without

any financial burden on the State governments.
