Visakhapatnam: Another gem added to the jewel of NTPC Simhadri Super Thermal Power Station with the commissioning of 25 MW floating solar PV project--first of kind developed in raw water reservoir spread over 75 acres.

Inaguration of the plant was done by Sanjay Madan, Regional Executive Director (WR2&SR), in the presence of Mohit Bhargava ED-RE and Diwakar Kaushik , Chief General Manager of Simhadri and other officials. Power flow of more than 20 MW was witnessed with present solar irradiance. This is the single largest floating solar PV project of India as on date.

Ten solar inverters each having a capacity of 2.5 MW was made by Control Monitoring and Control station (CMCS Building) through SCADA.

This prestigiuos project of 25 MW floating solar is executed by BHEL on EPC basis for a value of 110 crore.

The floating PV panels are tied through marine ropes from all corners and it is considered to be a engineering marvel due to the challenges faced during design and implementation of unique anchoring and mooring system.

This project is identified by Ministry of Power under Flexibilisation scheme, which shall replace the thermal power with renewed power, a NTPC official said.
