Data privacy shouldn't be compromised for data protection

Mumbai: The government has withdrawn the Personal Data Protection Bill that was formulated in 2018 and re-written by the JCP in 2021. After considerable deliberation and examination of the JCP's report, it was found that there is a need for a comprehensive redrawing of laws and rules taking into account some of the JCP's comments and the emerging challenges and opportunities that arise from there.

Talking to Bizz Buzz, Sandip Kumar Panda, a veteran in the cybersecurity space & co-founder of Instasafe Technologies, said: "Currently, we have a lot of tech companies operating globally and serving Indian users. It is necessary to have clarity in the data protection law on what sensitive data that organization can share with the government and what user data to be retained as confidential as part of data privacy."

Data privacy shouldn't be compromised for data protection. It is essential to have the right bill that supports the tech ecosystem rather than pushing a law in a short time span that creates more confusion, added Sandip who is a cloud-based security technology provider based in Bangalore and a Microsoft Ventures accelerator alumni.
