CIABC urges TS govt to not cut excise duty on imported liquor

Hyderabad The Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) has urged the Telangana Government not to reduce excise duties and other levies on imported liquor unless a similar concession is given to competing Indian liquor.

In a letter to the Telangana Government, CIABC Director General Vinod Giri said: “A reduction in excise duties and/or other levies on imported liquor without a similar reduction to competing Indian-made products will have an adverse impact on domestic industry, employment and tax revenues.”

The apex body of the Indian alcoholic beverage industry, with major Indian liquor manufacturers as its members, has cited the example of Maharashtra where a similar move led to fall in net tax collection of the State government and badly affected sales of Indian-made premium products.
