Vijayawada: Bureau of Energy Efficiency has set a target of 6.68 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE) energy savings for Andhra Pradesh and suggested State Designated Agency (SDA) AP State Energy Conservation Mission to chalk out sector- wise action plans to achieve the target.

Based on the report of energy savings achieved till date and consumption pattern in various sectors, the Ministry of Power-led BEE has fixed energy saving targets for all the States. The BEE has set a target for all the States to save 150 MTOE by 2030 through accelerating energy efficiency programmes and for aggressive implementation by all the States to achieve comprehensive development by reducing emissions intensity on the nation's economy.

During a virtual meeting to convey New Year wishes, BEE Director General Abhay Bakre wished all the SDAs the best of luck in the coming year and reaffirmed the agency's commitment to improve energy efficiency across the country, which helps reduce emissions and boost economic growth. All countries can benefit from increased energy efficiency because it will aid their efforts to achieve energy independence, open up new avenues for economic growth and job creation, lower their energy bills, and lessen their impact on the environment by decreasing their consumption of fossil fuels and emissions of greenhouse gases.

The DG said that the Union Power Minister RK Singh and Secretary of Power Alok Kumar insisted on raising wider public awareness about the impact of energy efficiency.
