GMR Airports Limited has secured the concession to upgrade, modernize, and operate Cargo Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), New Delhi, after receiving the official Letter of Award (LOA) from Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).

The project includes the financing, development, operation, management, and maintenance of the cargo terminal. The concession will operate under a revenue-sharing model with DIAL and is expected to generate approximately ₹340 crore in the first full year of operations. The contract period is set to run until 2036.

The award follows a competitive bidding process initiated by DIAL after the earlier cargo concession agreement with Celebi was terminated based on directives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. To ensure continuity of cargo operations, GMR Airports had initially been granted the concession on an interim basis before emerging as the selected bidder through the formal tender process.

GMR Airports stated that the transaction qualifies as a related party transaction but has been conducted on an arm’s-length basis. The company clarified that promoter group entities have no direct interest in the deal beyond indirect shareholding in both DIAL and GMR Airports Limited.

The project strengthens GMR Airports’ role in India’s aviation infrastructure ecosystem and expands its cargo handling capabilities at one of the country’s busiest airports.
