Flight Delays Between Dec 5-7? IndiGo Announces ₹10,000 Voucher Compensation

IndiGo Airlines has revealed that those who are left stranded at the airports during the period of December 3 to 5, 2025, will be given travel vouchers amounting to ₹10,000. The vouchers will have a life span of one year and can be used for any future journey with IndiGo, according to a press release issued by the airline on Thursday.
"IndiGo sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused to customers travelling on December 3, 4, and 5, 2025, many of whom were waiting for several hours to get through the airport due to their being congested. Passengers filtered by a vortex will get endowed with travel coupons worth ₹10,000, which will be valid for a period of one year," the statement further added.
This is in addition to refund of the tickets and the compensation of ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 mandated by the government. The airline has said most of the refunds are already done and the others will soon be finished.
Crisis and its fallout
The mess started on December 2, when technical issues caused a domino effect of cancellations and the delay in thousands of flights all over India. The situation at the airports was chaotic, as a lot of the passengers were not getting help and the authorities had to step in and regulate.
In order to regain control of the situation, the authorities instructed IndiGo to cut its winter schedule flights by 10%. The airline which usually has around 2,300 flights every day is slowly coming back to normal but still had to cancel over a hundred flights on Thursday.
Oversight by the Regulator
IndiGo's Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers has been called by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to give a thorough account of the operational disturbances.
Response of the Company
In a video message, the Chairman of IndiGo, Vikram Singh Mehta, while talking about the criticisms going on, said, “The past week has seen a lot of criticisms, some justifiable, others not. Among the justifiable criticisms is the airline letting down its customers and accountability to the passengers, government, shareholders and employees. Nevertheless, the accusations of the crisis being engineered, government rules being influenced or safety being compromised are all false.”
The airline is still working on stabilization of its operations while making sure that the affected passengers receive proper compensation.
