New Delhi: Air India on Tuesday said its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson, has stepped down and will exit before completing his five-year term ending July 2027.
Wilson took charge in 2022 after the Tata Group reacquired Air India from the government and led an ambitious transformation programme. This included the merger of four airlines, modernisation of systems, fleet expansion with over 100 aircraft additions, and upgrades in service standards and interiors. He also oversaw a broader shift from public-sector functioning to private-sector practices, alongside a significant overhaul of leadership, workforce, and organisational culture.
In a message to staff, Wilson said the past four years had seen “tremendous change and progress” despite major headwinds such as aircraft delivery delays, supply chain disruptions, geopolitical conflicts, airspace closures, and rising fuel costs. He also referred to last year’s Ahmedabad plane crash that claimed 260 lives and brought regulatory scrutiny.
