Yamaha has made its first neo-retro roadster available in India, the XSR 155, which is a combination of classic design and modern performance. The platform used to produce the XSR 155 is identical to those of the Yamaha R15 and MT-15, but it has a more upright riding position which is a comfortable alternative to the sportier models.
The Yamaha XSR 155 has an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 1,49,990. It comes in four different colors: Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Metallic Blue, and Greyish Green Metallic. Additionally, the company has two kits which can be used to personalize the bike, apart from offering the café racer and scrambler style, so the buyer has the choice of personalization.
The XSR 155 takes on a retro look while being still modern and is thus in sync with Yamaha's “sport heritage” philosophy. The vintage look has been complemented by a round LED headlamp, a sculpted fuel tank and a minimalist tail section among others. The final look is of a simple and plain roadster which, while evoking nostalgia, is still appealing to the modern day.
The motorcycle’s Deltabox frame paired with an aluminum swingarm guarantees rigidity and light handling. The upside-down (USD) front forks and the monocross rear suspension together give stability and quick control which is good for both city commuters and for country rides on weekends.
A liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-valve, 155 cc engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) is present under the fuel tank of the XSR 155. Its power output is 18.1 bhp and torque is 14.2 Nm. The six-speed gearbox comes with an assist and slipper clutch allowing seamless downshifts and at the same time preventing the rear wheel from locking up which results in a better riding experience.
Safety has been the primary concern valued with the dual-channel ABS and the traction controls, which lessens the wheelspin and gives a much better grip and control on the wet or slippery roads. Consequently, these features are combined to aid the motorcycle in giving a good performance in both the novice and the experienced rider's hands, thus attracting a wider public with style and performance.
The XSR 155, with its price tag nearly identical to the Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0, TVS Apache RTR 160, and Bajaj Pulsar N250, is proud to be the component that extends the neo-retro segment and brings benefits for those riders who want a vintage look but still keep up with modern tech.
The introduction of the Yamaha XSR 155 is a clear statement from Yamaha that they want the Indian motorcycling community to experience a globally accepted neo-retro bike, thus, making the ride still fashionable for a performance-oriented customer group.
