Yamaha may return with Yamaha RX likely to get a 225.9 cc engine

According to Yamaha's chairman, Eishin Chihana, the Yamaha RX100 holds a special place in the hearts of Indian motorcycle enthusiasts, thanks to its lightweight design and exceptional performance. Chihana acknowledged the overwhelming response the RX100 received in the Indian market and emphasized the need to do justice to its iconic name.

In response to rumors surrounding the comeback of the Yamaha RX100, Chihana confirmed that the company indeed plans to resurrect the RX100 nameplate. However, he clarified that the launch is not imminent, with a projected timeline set for 2026 or later, in accordance with current emission norms.

Chihana stressed the importance of mastering the right formula before reintroducing the beloved pocket-rocket bike. He mentioned that the current 155cc engine, found in models like the YZF-R15 and MT-15, falls short in matching the performance of the original RX100.

To uphold the legacy of the RX100 and deliver a comparable level of performance, Yamaha intends to modernize the bike by introducing it with a four-stroke engine configuration, likely with a displacement of 225.9cc. However, Chihana admitted that even with this engine upgrade, the new model might not replicate the distinctive sound of its predecessor.
