New Delhi: The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the leading voice of the Indian automotive industry, orchestrated the second edition of the International Conference on Sustainable Circularity (ICSC) under its Circularity initiative. The event, held on the final day of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, aimed at uniting industry stakeholders and government representatives to discuss the transition towards an automotive circular economy in India.

Aligned with the theme, "Towards Nature Positive Pathway: Embracing Circular Economies with Low Carbon Strategies," the conference began with the unveiling of the Context Paper, "Gas Based Mobility: Fuelling India’s Economy," by Hon’ble Chief Guest Mr. Arvind Nautiyal, Joint Secretary & Member Secretary, Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

During the inaugural session, Mr. Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM, emphasized SIAM's commitment to reducing the auto industry's carbon footprint through the Circularity initiative, contributing to India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Key insights were shared by industry experts, including Mr. Ashish Chutani from Maruti Suzuki, who emphasized the importance of Scrappage, Circularity, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for India’s sustainable mobility vision.

The technical sessions delved into critical aspects, such as Extended Producer Responsibility in ELV Recycling, Recycling Resources for a Sustainable Future, and Innovative ELV Recycling for Sustainability. The discussions were chaired by notable figures from government bodies and industry, providing a platform for sharing insights and best practices.

The conference emphasized the significance of Circular Economy principles in the automotive sector, promoting responsible resource management. Mr. Prashant K Banerjee summarized the event, highlighting SIAM's dedication to fostering circularity in the automotive industry.

The successful organization of the 2nd ICSC demonstrated SIAM’s commitment to promoting circularity and facilitating India’s transition towards sustainable mobility. The event concluded with a positive exchange of ideas and the establishment of the Circularity Pavilion at the expo, reinforcing SIAM’s leadership in driving sustainable practices within the automotive sector.
