Panic buying surges at Hyderabad petrol pumps amid closure rumors

Hyderabad witnessed a surge in activity at petrol pumps following the circulation of WhatsApp messages by unidentified individuals suggesting the potential closure of fuel stations for an upcoming three to four-day period. The messages, including warnings to keep tanks filled, triggered panic buying among the public. Contrary to these speculations, the Telangana Petrol Dealers Association and Bharatiya Private Transport Mazdoor Maha Sangh All India General Secretary reassured the public that there were no planned strikes or closures imminent.

Earlier incidents, such as the petrol pump shortages on January 2 due to a strike by oil tank trucks and the driver protests against a new law imposing severe penalties for hit-and-run incidents, contributed to the apprehension among the public. However, Telangana Petrol Dealers Association President Marri Amarender Reddy affirmed that regular stock deliveries were being maintained at all pumps in the city and state, dispelling concerns of an impending strike. Similarly, Alluri Ravi Shankar, the All India General Secretary of Bharatiya Private Transport Mazdoor Maha Sangh, conveyed positive discussions with the government, ensuring the absence of any planned strikes in the near future.
